Subject: dropped notes
In a previous digest phat said that the new windows drivers are better ie
drop less notes? I thought that any dropped midi event would be a
serious problem. For example notes could get stuck on. Or does better
mean you can run faster without dropping any notes?

Controller 123, I believe, is the All Notes Off controller. You need
to send it on each channel you want to silence. Only the latest
Windows drivers respond to it, though.

Subject: Organizing custom patches
I've noticed that there has been a great increase in the availability of custom
patches for the UltraSound. This creates some problems for the users of these
patches. Many new users are at a lost when faced with so many confusing sets
of patches. I propose that we attempt to organize things so that it would be
easier for users to use these patches.
I have compiled a preliminary list of patches that are available on epas and its
mirrors. I am arranging them, tentatively, by patch name, archive containing this
patch, patch information (ie 8/16-bit, sample rate, number of multisamples),
suggested replacement (if any), and patch category.
I would like to seek views on how best to define the different categories. Currently
I am basing them on GM categories, but this may be quite limiting. Phat has
suggested that we categorize based on electronic or acoustic and then subdividing
those. Any suggestions?
Currently defined GM categories:
Prog# Instrument Prog# Instrument
(1-8 PIANO) (9-16 CHROM PERCUSSION)
(17-24 ORGAN) (25-32 GUITAR)
(33-40 BASS) (41-48 STRINGS)
(49-56 ENSEMBLE) (57-64 BRASS)
(65-72 REED) (73-80 PIPE)
(81-88 SYNTH LEAD) (89-96 SYNTH PAD)
(97-104 SYNTH EFFECTS) (105-112 ETHNIC)
(113-120 PERCUSSIVE) (121-128 SOUND EFFECTS)

YES! It seems to me to be the natural thing to do - look on the disk for
patches - cut out the middle man... (.ini) Would seem sensible to create
banks from setups you've manually made, but the other way (the way we do
it now) is just plain counterintuitive. Its a bit frustrating to use
Windows to create patches, then get out of windows, then adjust the .ini,
then go through 2 or 3 'boot-oops-its broke-fix-the-ini-boot...' cycles.
BTW Thanks!

nenplatz!
Morning all
I read with interest (to say the least!) the info on the 16-bit option
upgrade - is this a replacement for the MAX? does it have all the
functionality of what the MAX will have? where/when is the MAX?
I suppose I am basically asking for advice from the horses mouth as to
whether I should continue to wait for the MAX, or get myself a GUS and the
add-on...what does the team think?
have a weekend - Richard
